"A beggar in distress do not reject; avert not your face from the poor. From the needy turn not your eyes, give no man reason to curse you; for if in the bitterness of his soul he curse you, his Creator will hear his prayer ... deliver the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor; let not justice be repugnant to you. To the fatherless be as a father, and help their mother as a husband would; thus you will be like a son to the Most High, and he will be more tender to you than a mother." (Sirach 4: 4-6, 9-10)
The Social Justice & Peace Commission is open to all members of our community who are interested in expressing their faith in Christ by serving others. We share a common interest in providing for the diverse needs of the parish, as well as the larger community, through a variety of short and long term projects. Some of these are food drives, Habitat for Humanity (building weekends-annual walk), Christmas Giving Tree, Lenten Suppers, Legislative Initiatives for justice and peace, Bread for the World, Warm Thy Neighbor, and Meal-a-Month Program. Activities of members are diverse and dependent on their interests and availability. No experience is required. Commitment varies from one to several hours monthly, depending on the project.
